Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes, all students in any grade may ride to school using rollerblades, skateboards, or scooters. However, we will not allow them to ride these things on school grounds. Please be sure your child knows he/she must carry his/her skateboard or scooter, and take off his/her rollerblades before entering the school building.

Please label all medications and leave them in the school health office. Only our school nurse will hand out the medicine to students. Prescription medicines must be prescribed by a doctor and have documentation telling how much and how often your child must take the medicine. Please be sure to contact the health office ahead of time if you want your child taking over-the-counter medicines too.
-
We divide the school year into four grading periods and send out grades on the Thursday after the end of each period.
-
School begins at 8:50 a.m., with the tardy bell at 8:45 a.m. Please be in your seats before the tardy bell! School ends at 3:45 p.m. every day except for Monday. On that day, we release students early at 2:15 p.m. Parents, please don’t bring your children to school any earlier than 8:00 a.m.; we do not have supervision before then.
-
When at all possible, please notify us when your child is absent. A phone call is just fine. Students who are absent need to return with a note explaining the reason for being gone. An absence note is a must! Otherwise, we will have to record the absence as “unexcused.”
-
Please check in with the front office to let us know you want to take your child out of school early. Once you arrive in our office, we will notify the classroom teacher and have him or her send your student to the office. We will not dismiss students to walk alone either to go home or to appointments. You must be present to check out your child.

Elementary Pricing School: Alice Byrne
We know that breakfast is the most important part of the day. That is why at Yuma School District One, we offer breakfast at no cost. We serve breakfast from 8:25 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Lunch is available to all students for $1.50 every day.
You may fill out a free and reduced lunch application at any time during the school year if you think your child may qualify. If you would like to manage your meal account online or make an online payment, you may go to the district Child Nutrition page. See the cafeteria manager for more details. We look forward to serving you.
If your child brings a sack lunch from home, he/she may still purchase a juice or milk for 25 cents to go with the meal. Due to USDA guidelines, milk or juice is 25 cents, regardless of whether or not the student qualifies for free and reduced-price meals.
-
We do not want any of our students to go hungry if they accidentally forget to bring lunch money. Students can charge their lunches up to three times. After the third time, students can’t charge lunches, but we will give them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk until you pay the charges.
-
We ask that students come to school dressed and ready to learn. Please wear clean and modest clothing. Wear your pants or shorts at the waistline. Shirts should be long enough that they can be tucked in if necessary. Caps are allowed on campus but not in the classroom, and knitted caps may be worn only when the weather is cold enough.
Please do not wear the following:
- baggy or sagging pants/shorts
- belts that hang below your shirt
- short mini skirts/shorts
- revealing clothing
- see-through blouses
- halter tops or tube tops
- mesh skirts
- low-cut muscle shirts
- low-cut basketball jerseys
- chains
- bandanas
- clothing that portrays alcohol, drugs, sex, or vulgar language
- anything that advertises professional wrestling
-
Please do not bring the following items to school: radios, tape recorders, electronics, expensive jewelry, large sums of money, or toys. Anything brought to school is at your own risk, whether it gets lost, broken, or taken away during school hours.
-
We try our best to return lost items to students, but we need your help. When possible, please label your children’s coats, sweaters, lunch pails, and anything else you would want returned to you in case it gets lost.
-
We allow students in grades 3–5 to ride bikes to school. City law requires your student to wear a helmet for safety. We also have bike racks available for parking the bikes, and we require students to lock their bikes. Alice Byrne Elementary is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged bikes.
-
Yes. All classrooms are equipped with Internet access, and we take precautions to make sure students use it appropriately. We ask all parents and students to sign a permission slip, verifying that a student is willing to follow the guidelines of good conduct when using the Internet in the classroom.
